All RedAlkemist shouted cheered and jumped together in joy as Indian cricket team beat arch rivals Pakistan in a nailbiting final of T20 world cup… and lifted the cup. Well a jinx was broken as the last time we all watched a match together in the entertainment center, India was out of the world cup… This time we won.. and paid back in style..

In its constant endeavor to share & improve its knowledge base, RedAlkemi organized a Search Engine Marketing Seminar on the 4th of this month at the Entertainment Center.

-Latest search engine industry trends, developments and solutions in this area

For an industry that keeps reinventing itself at an amazing pace, it’s always interesting to note how some of last year’s cutting-edge solutions are already dated in some areas. The seminar and chat session that followed gave some good insights into how to maximize search engine marketing opportunities and adopt the latest solutions in this area.

Bait strategies to get the right kind of fish (links)

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Link Baiting is an old and a popular term that is used for content that gets relevant websites in your sphere to automatically link to your website without you asking for a link. This is often mistaken as a part of viral marketing as it normally does not promote exposure or branding.

There are several ways of creating link baits which are mentioned below -

a) Good content hooks: Good content with catchy title: write focused content important to your business and use catchy titles. If you have a good title, then you have won half the battle of a successful linkbait campaign. Use optimized anchor text as the goal is to have it linked to often, the title will be used as the link in many cases.
b) News Hook: This does not mean generic news – but if you are one of the few people to actually know about new happenings in your industry, then you can be the first one to publish the news and use it as a “hook”.
c) Contrary Hook: When you go against common myths or well established notions and people will be incited to talk about you.
d) Humor Hook. When you have something witty written about anything in your industry niche, influential people etc, in a lighter vein.
e) Tool Hook. When you create free tools and make them available on your website for people to use.
f) Award Hook. When you provide award which are legitimate in your industry and people who have won them, link to your website to legitimatize them selves.
g) Giveaway Hook: When you give away promotional material for free on your website.
h) Research/Statistic Hook: When you have Compiled data, scientific surveys etc., on your website which have great importance in your industry.
i) Ego Hook: When you offer people significant exposure to express their ideas, talk about themselves, their ideas, or their company with your assistance.

As time is passing, people are finding more ways of link baiting. Depending upon the industry and the business model, link baiting technique would vary.

New Kids on the block

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

It’s been almost a month since I have taken charge of the PPC wing - and armed with a bagful of ideas and loads of enthusiasm our young PPC team is all set to be “Christened”.

With a small two man army (or should I say “woman”) both Sanjana and I are all set to join the increasing list of energetic teams working under Anuja’s umbrella.  Needless to say we are nervous and excited but raring to go!!

Since we were never really actively promoting  PPC to most of our existing Clients, we now hope that having a dedicated team for monitoring and running the projects will give the entire SEM  strategy a good push in the right direction.

Paid search is the hottest area of online marketing today. The beauty of PPC advertising is the speed at which you can reach your target market and the high quality of leads that can be generated with immediate effect. PPC advertising, is one of the most popular ways to get traffic to your website without really stretching the budget too far. You can in a way control your spend.

PPC advertising can be a very successful marketing tool that requires you to maximize the performance of  ads so as to get the maximum Return on Investment. Whether it is for  increasing an online presence, Search for new customers, sell more products or services or just promote a website, PPC works well. With good planning, constant monitoring and tweaking  pay-per-click advertising can prove to be profitable for companies willing to make the spend.

Obviously we intend to ensure that our Clients get the best of the above and we can help give them their “dollars” worth.

I hope the coming months hold in store loads of support, good wishes, challenges and excitement…..

Maximize golden areas on your website - track customer’s eyes

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Several website experts keep conducting this “eye tracking research” to find the right spot where the customers or website users always focus on. Eye tracking is used in virtually every kind of marketing - TV ads, billboards, product packaging and web sites - to determine what works and what doesn’t with consumers. What is this eye tracking? Is it really that important? Lets try and answer some of these questions.

What is eye tracking study?
Eye tracking is the process of measuring either the point of gaze (”where we are looking”) or the motion of an eye relative to the head. An eye tracker is a device for measuring eye positions and eye movements (definition source: Wikipedia).

eyetracking.jpg

In simpler words, the trackers record the areas (via heat sensors), where the the visitor’s eyes pays maximum attention. The image above shows the trends on search engines, which is more or less same for a website. The area on the top-left is called “The golden triangle”. This is the area which gets maximum attention

Is eye tracking analysis really that important?
Being involved in usability study and conversion improvement, I can say that this study makes a lot of sense and could help us define the important and sellable areas (or spots) on the website.
While we are trying to start a service or add a new package to the website, or simply want website visitors to focus on a thing, you should place it strategically on the area considered as the golden spots on the website. While designing the website, one could keep these things in mind to leverage certain areas to boost sales.

The eye tracking pattern may be based on any or all of the following:

  • Individual perception
  • Interest
  • Need
  • Age
  • Education level
  • Computer monitor
  • Browser settings and others reasons etc.

It can help us find the following:

  • Effectiveness of our website design
  • Whether we are using the right areas for promotion
  • If our users are able to find what they’re looking for
  • The right content is used at the right spots
  • Effectiveness of banners
  • If search boxes are noticed at all

The results of numerous eye tracking studies enable web site designers and owners to optimize site pages for maximum impact and “stickiness”. Lets face it all that matters in an online business is NOT how busy you website is (traffic), but how many of them actually become customers. All versions are good as long as it is CONVERSION (hear the registers ringing:))

In todays world, people are not just limited to their personal computer for internet access. They can do it from their palmtops and mobile phones from any corner of the world. Bookmarking for SEO:

1) Bookmarks like del.icio.us are home to huge traffic as visitors get references to quality website links in different categories called tags. So if you have such a good content on your website that you can make visitors to actually bookmark your page, you can divert good amount of repeated traffic from such bookmark websites to your own.

2) Many websites refer to these bookmark websites to evaluate the page ranking of the bookmarked sites. More the bookmarks, better the content and higher goes the PR . Ain’t it Del.icio.us ? ;)

RedAlkemi saves lives… organizes blood donation camp

Friday, September 14th, 2007

To save a life is an endeavor most of us hold but hardly get an opportunity to do so. Donating blood and saving lives of many in need is a noble cause which each one of us should contribute towards. Keeping the spirit of life alive, a blood donation camp was organized on 14th Sep at 2pm by the indomitable and enterprising spirit of the RedAlkemi team.

The Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource center collaborated with our enthusiastic staff and based their camp in the Entertainment Center of the basement of RedAlkemi. With its thoroughly professional team of 2 doctors and about 15 technicians, the basement looked like a mini hospital by itself, keen to make a difference in many lives.

With completely sterilized syringes and equally fresh blood bags, the technicians prepared the arrival of the donors by standing patiently next to each comfortable easy chair with their latest medical apparatus. Slowly poured in youths, elders, men and women from all walks of life, each enthusiastic to save a life by donating their blood. One could see an array of students, professors, corporate officials, service men, housewives, laborers and even senior citizens walking in proudly to contribute towards a social cause. It was indeed very motivating to see how many people took out their precious time and stepped in for giving their blood for the many who may need it at any time.

The Rotary Blood Bank society then gave certificates and a gift to each donor as thanksgiving . Few who were feeling faint after giving blood were given immediate medical aid. Scrumptious refreshments like juices, cold flavored milk, fruits, eggs and biscuits were organized for each donor who walked in an attempt to save a life but left with a feeling of contentment within.

The camp was not simply a Blood Donation Event, it was a humble contribution from RedAlkemi towards mankind and society. God gives us life, we just helped in saving it further.

Moments of Inspiration

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

It feels really good when your recommendations and hard work show results. I just received a very nice feedback from one of my clients - cashone.com, on the efforts put in by everybody working on his project. The results were tangible and in the form of an increase in revenue generated from his website.

We hope cashone.com sees a doubling of growth in the coming months and they are able to take their business to a higher level thanks to us ;)

Cheers to the SEO, Link Building and Article Syndication team for making this project a success.
