Making a difference in someone’s life..

Friday, September 25th, 2009

As an organization, our endeavor always remain to involve us and our staff members in activities wherein we can proudly say, we made a difference in someone’s life. Do not measure how big or small your contribution is. Important is at least you have started thinking in the right direction..

Ms. Supreet, a Chandigarh Adventure Treks & Sports (CATS) member and supporter of many social activities shared something which we want to share with the masses through our blog. Read on in her own words…

“There is an NGO in our City Beautiful, Chandigarh (India) called Theatre Age, which was formed in 1992 by Dept of Indian Theatre graduate from Panjab University, Zulfiqar Khan. Theatre age focuses on the upliftment of slum children. Till date, approximately 51 rag pickers, boot-polishers and labourers are in the process of discovering themselves and carving their niche in the world. Theatre Age rehabilitates the children from the above identified categories and introduces them to school education and offer a new perspective through theatre and dance workshops. Recently 15 children associated with Theatre Age have passed 8th and 9th grade examination with flying colours. Not toppers, but winners for sure.

A boot-polisher, VeerPal learnt new skills at Theatre Age and has now joined a reputed television channel as a trained make-up artist.
Vicky Raja transformed himself from a street urchin to Border Security Force soldier.
Sahil joined Theatre Age at the age of 4 as a rag-picker and now at the age of 13, he had passed 8th grade exams with flying colours.

Funds for their evening school run in sec.24 are generated via collection and sale of old newspapers or ‘raddi’ as is generally called. Theatre Age will arrange to collect your ‘raddi’ from your home, office, department at a time.day convenient to you. All you have to do is make up your mind that instead of putting your old newspapers in the gargabe bin or selling it for a few bucks to the ‘kabaari’, you will rather let the old newspapers spell a new world of education for an underprivileged child.

Would you like to be the reason for someone’s path to dignified financial and vocational independence?

Can we offer a ray of hope to a tender soul, a hope to look towards a better future?

All it will take is one phone call from you, when you want your old newspapers/raddi to be collected, absolutely free of charge.

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

RedAlkemi in association with the CII Chandigarh Council organized a one hour thirty minutes infotainment session on Blood Donation and AIDS Awareness for its employees. As a main speaker for this session, we had with us Dr Suvir Saxena, Deputy Director, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society and member secretary, Blood Transfusion Council Chandigarh. The session began with a 30 minutes documentary on the importance of Blood Donation followed by an insightful presentation on HIV/AIDS by Dr. Suvir Saxena, which enabled us to understand the magnitude of the problem in better light and help us gear up more effectively to combat the pandemic together.

RedAlkemi, being a Socially Responsible Organization is sensitive to the interests of the society and makes a positive difference by organizing initiatives like Blood Donation Camps etc. and creating awareness among masses about the issues, which are affecting our community and the environment. It is our endeavor at RedAlkemi to further plan more CSR Programmes, which will benefit the community as a whole.

Celebrating Friendship Week with The Maa Sharanam Orphanage

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

At RedAlkemi we decided to celebrate Friendship Week this year in a special and unique way by contributing in kind to the Maa Sharanam Orphanage. The entire staff participated in the donation drive held for a duration of one week from 28th July - 1st Aug ‘08. Everybody displayed a high enthusiasm level towards this productive activity and we collected loads of goodies like Stationary, Eatables, Clothes, Books, and much more!

Thereafter the Redalkemi HR Team delivered the collectibles to the Maa Sharanam Orphanage at Mohali Sector 70 where Mrs. Kalpana Ghai an active member of Maa Sharanam informed us about the place being temporary and given by a volunteer till they could collect sufficient funds to arrange for a home for the homeless kids.

The children were thrilled and gazed at us in amazement while we offloaded the stuff from our car. They all gathered in a big hall where we placed the three big donation boxes.

For one of the kids, Neeraj it was a very special occasion being his birthday. So there we were, singing the Birthady Song in chorus for the little one, whose excitement knew no bounds! Pictures were clicked to capture all the fun and excitement on the smiling faces. All the kids were so cute especially the two adorable 4yr olds, Muskaan and Kaajal who completely stole our hearts.

We ended the day with a thanksgiving bhajan from the children…that lingered on in our hearts as we left the orphanage with cherished memories and a sense of fulfillment of having done something really worthwhile.

Mother Nature in danger: RA organizes Environmental Awareness Camp

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Do you know that the biggest source of Environmental Pollution is not the cars, trucks etc on the road, but the Thermal Power Plants which constitute the biggest source of harmful gases. What do we do then? Simple! Use energy saver lights and save as much electricity as you can. I am sure, very few of us would be consciously following this. Just to spread awareness and to remind us the consequences we might have to pay (in fact we are paying already), if we don’t stop hurting our mother nature, RedAlkemi participated in an Environmental Awareness Camp organized by Greenpeace India on 7th Dec 2007 at the Entertainment Center.

Greenpeace is an international & independent, Non-governmental Organization (NGO) campaigning to protect our environment since 1971, which uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and force solutions for a green and peaceful future. Greenpeace has its presence in 41 countries across Europe, America, Asia and Pacific

It was really nice to see the RedAlkemists coming forward, asking questions about how they can contribute towards fulfilling their environmental duties. I hope that we all have drawn something out of this Environmental Awareness Camp, and let’s all go an extra mile to save our environment from destruction. Let us all save Earth.

RedAlkemi saves lives… organizes blood donation camp

Friday, September 14th, 2007

To save a life is an endeavor most of us hold but hardly get an opportunity to do so. Donating blood and saving lives of many in need is a noble cause which each one of us should contribute towards. Keeping the spirit of life alive, a blood donation camp was organized on 14th Sep at 2pm by the indomitable and enterprising spirit of the RedAlkemi team.

The Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource center collaborated with our enthusiastic staff and based their camp in the Entertainment Center of the basement of RedAlkemi. With its thoroughly professional team of 2 doctors and about 15 technicians, the basement looked like a mini hospital by itself, keen to make a difference in many lives.

With completely sterilized syringes and equally fresh blood bags, the technicians prepared the arrival of the donors by standing patiently next to each comfortable easy chair with their latest medical apparatus. Slowly poured in youths, elders, men and women from all walks of life, each enthusiastic to save a life by donating their blood. One could see an array of students, professors, corporate officials, service men, housewives, laborers and even senior citizens walking in proudly to contribute towards a social cause. It was indeed very motivating to see how many people took out their precious time and stepped in for giving their blood for the many who may need it at any time.

The Rotary Blood Bank society then gave certificates and a gift to each donor as thanksgiving . Few who were feeling faint after giving blood were given immediate medical aid. Scrumptious refreshments like juices, cold flavored milk, fruits, eggs and biscuits were organized for each donor who walked in an attempt to save a life but left with a feeling of contentment within.

The camp was not simply a Blood Donation Event, it was a humble contribution from RedAlkemi towards mankind and society. God gives us life, we just helped in saving it further.
