It goes without beating around the bush that a well trained and motivated staff is a valuable asset to the company, with a talked about efficiency in discharging his duties. The right employee training and development goes a long way in providing big payoffs to both the employer and the employee in terms of increased productivity, knowledge, contribution, and loyalty.
At RedAlkemi, we have always believed that in today’s business environment, constant development and learning builds a framework for helping employees hone their personal and organizational skills, knowledge, and abilities.
In a recent effort to attain the same, the Human Resource department at RedAlkemi organized an interactive session on— “Managerial Techniques for Performance Excellence”, with Prof. M.R Senapathy, Senior Faculty Member, IFEN ICFAI University Group, Hyderabad.
Prof. Senapathy, who has over three decades of experience (26 years as a banker in various managerial capacities and over 5 years as faculty in ICFAI University), has to his credit over 650 programs, which include several training programs to the bank employees, corporate seminars, faculty development programs and students development programs involving over 30,000 professors, lecturers, teachers, students, and management professionals.
At the workshop held at RedAlkemi, the senior level management was given an elaborate lecture on Performance Excellence techniques, including the 5S (list of 5 Japanese words), Kaizen (Japanese word for continuous improvement), 6 Sigma, TPM, and TQM.
The 5S were discussed in detail as follows:
Seiri- Sorting through all materials in the work area and prioritizing them on the frequency of their use.
Seiton- Tidiness at the work place, as each item deserves only one place and should be returned to its place after use.
Seiso- The work place should be kept neat and clean, as this outlines the attitude of the workers.
Seiketsu- Maintaining consistency and full responsibility.
Shitsuki- Maintaining the 5 S’s as a way of life; to follow procedures.
5S is a great way to organize workplace in a manner that is more efficient, safer, and more visually appealing.
The next technique, which Prof. Senapathy emphasized on, was Kaizen, a powerful Japanese strategy for continuous improvement. Implementing this strategy can lead to excellence in both personal and professional lives. He also acquainted the staff with other managerial techniques – 6 Sigma, TPM, and TQM, and discussed the importance of communication as a crucial aspect to the success of an organization. The workshop concluded with discussing various case studies and examples.
S.A.L.T. is an acronym for Strategy, Attitude, Leadership, and Teamwork. RedAlkemi conducted synergizing S.A.L.T. workshops to instill a feeling of integrity, solidarity, confidence, and harmony amongst the team members.
The venue for these workshops was the Entertainment Center at RedAlkemi, where a host of structured training modules and other fun activities took place. This created a thrilling atmosphere and a feeling of enthusiasm amid the participants of each team who concentrated on their team building instincts and willingness to outshine other teams. They also applied various techniques they learnt during the sessions, like lateral thinking and delegation of duties.
Spread over the entire month of December, the wrap-up day saw thick competition between three teams viz. Spiders, Content & Business Development, and Technical & Finance Team. The Technical & Finance Team emerged as winners. For constant team efforts, and standing strong amongst all, 29th December saw the winning team in complete synonym with fun, enjoying an evening out at a bowling parlor in Panchkula.
With the S.A.L.T workshops coming to an end, resulting in an overall development of the staff, and leaving the winning team proud and excited, the Human Resource department at RedAlkemi is yet again busy planning newer strategies to fortify essential attributes and personalities.

19th March 2010: RedAlkemi has always had immense faith in the expression- learn while you earn. So, in the spirit of that maxim, we organized a Special Workshop for our Sales Team on Friday. The workshop was in order to increase our client facing employees’ knowledge and awareness about US Corporate and Business Culture. Through this exercise, RedAlkemi’s employees would be able to better understand the American business attitude, they would also learn how to better pre-empt our US clients’ needs and act accordingly. The workshop covered topics like:
A) How to identify your customers’ needs and best satisfy them.
It is always best to ask your customer directly what he or she may need. Don’t just try to push your own product or service in order to make up your own targets. It is better to ask the customer how best you can assist him or her.
B) How to answer and wind up a Business Call.
It is not appropriate to begin a phone conversation by calling someone by his/her first name. The proper etiquette is to address a customer by his/her last name. For example, if the customer’s name is John Smith then you should address him as Mr. Smith. Later in the conversation, you can ask permission to address the customer by his/her first name.
C)Some interesting facts that can help you seal the deal with a US client:
Firstly, in case of any delay in project work please don’t try giving feeble excuses like technical fault, server breakdown, blah, blah, etc etc. It is better to be forthright and say that there is going to be delay in project work and to apologize for the inconvenience. Also it might be worth your while to try and offer some sort of discount in lieu of delay or offer to personally deliver the product or service to the client.
Secondly, US clients are extremely rule oriented and task-centered. Their decisions and activities largely focus around what needs to be done, and does the manner in which they divide responsibilities.
Lastly, here are some common names for everyday objects whose usage varies greatly from country to country:
RedAlkemi has always believed in learn while you earn. This has instilled a lot of confidence in employees to be able to learn and experience whatever they want to learn under the roof of RedAlkemi.
We the HR department of RA has been over the period of one year been able to build a strong sense of learning among our employees that today we can proudly call ourselves the leaders in Trainings.
We have been able to satisfy the training needs for our employees. Trainings, which are conducted, are of two types: -
1.Skill based training
2.Technical Trainings
Skill based Training: Skill based Training along with a team building activity is conducted on alternate days as a regular exercise. This helps our employees to rejuvenate themselves from work pressure and stress, which builds up due to work and also helps in teaching them a new subject with a related team building activity.
Technical based Training: We at RA are privileged to be trained by our esteemed CEO Mr.Atul Gupta, which has given us the chance of sharing and learning from his vast knowledge on the intricacies of different topics. This kind of experience is shared only at RA. This is also scheduled on regular basis and all the members of the company are updated with new technology.
We also motivate our employees to contribute and share their knowledge on new technology they work upon. As technology comes after a lot of R&D we feel this can be shared with rest of the team members & they will also continue to contribute to the company’s success at all times & add more value to subject.
Nothing at RA seems difficult for us, as we can keep moving up the ladder to unleash our skills to maximum potential we have.
Several times in our daily lives, we find ourselves facing a tough choice,a choice to lead or to follow. Now depending on certain genes and our upbringing, some of us are more inclined to lead, whereas others are more comfortable following. Being a leader is not easy, as being a leader is a lonely position, in comparison with that of their followers. All responsibility for success (or failure) lies on their shoulders.
So as an endeavor to help recognize the leader in us, a seminar was organized by the RedAlkemi HR Department (Preeti Raina & Divya Vashisht to be precise) at Entertainment Center on 13th Dec 07. The speaker was Mr.Abhijit Bhattacharya – Sr.Manager ,Trainings at ICFAI – Hyderabad. The seminar was attended by all the Team Leads and Senior Management of RedAlkemi who were eager to add new tools to their management skill arsenals. The focus of Mr. Abhijit Bhattacharya during the entire seminar was primarily to help us differentiate between good managers and outstanding leaders. He conveyed his perspective with some solid live examples including principles and policies followed by John Adair.
The appreciation emails sent to the HR by all those RedAlkemists who attended the seminar are a reflection of what a hit the seminar turned out to be. We are all looking forward to attending more of such seminars which will help us to become better leaders.
