Keyword Research Using Google AdWords

When we talk about SEO, the first thing that comes to our mind is “Meta Keywords”. Now, what are Meta keywords? Meta keywords are also called as the focus keywords. These are the main keywords that are highly searched by people and also have high completion. High completion means many other companies who are in the same business probably use the same keywords for their SEO. Now, competition is very tough and only the company having good and thorough Keyword research will win this race.

You do not need any special skills for keyword research. What all you need is a sharp observation power.

You can also put an eye on your competitors; study their code to get an idea about focus keywords.

How to select a focus keyword:

When you look on google for free keyword research tools, you will get countless sites and tools in search results. But the most difficult job is to decide which one is better for you.

From my own experience, I will suggest you “Google AdWords” for getting new ideas for your keywords.

How to Work with it:

First of all what you need is an account on Google AdWords, which is totally free of cost and you don’t need to worry about expenses.

All right, now after you login to your account, you will get a screen like this:

Now click on Tools from the menu and then select “keyword Planner” from the drop down.

Now in the next step, you have to put the keywords that you want to use for your website optimization. One thing you must keep in mind is that initially, you have to enter keywords to AdWords. After that, you will get relevant results based on initially entered keywords. Here I have used two keywords:

  • Social media Marketing companies
  • SEO companies

adwords3 You can also select the geographical area and language to make your search more specific. Now select  “Get Idea” button and observe the following information

  • Keywords by relevance
  • Monthly Searches
  • Competition and many more

The main thing we need to focus is on Monthly Searches and Competition. We always try to pick that keyword having more searches and less completion. I know it’s a very rare combination and that is why sometimes we also choose keywords having fewer searches and less completion.

But yes, there should be minimum 1000 searches per month for that keyword. The rest depends on your business needs.

You will get near about 800 suggestions for focus keyword and now you can easily choose which keywords will really work for your product.
