Are you among the over 100 million users of a MacBook today? Then you have probably encountered some problems with it. MacBooks are reliable laptops that offer a smooth experience to users and are so intuitive and easy to use.

However, just like any other device, you may encounter some problems with it. Some of them can be solved quickly by following some simple steps. However, others might need professional intervention and you might need to take your laptop to the service. But first, let’s see the 7 most common MacBook problems and how to fix them.

1. Laptop Suddenly Dying

One of the most common problems you might encounter while using your MacBook is that it becomes unresponsive and it suddenly dies. The first cause of this might be your MacBook’s battery which might not charge properly. However, if this happens while your battery is fully charged, then there might be another cause. What should you do in this case?

Restart your laptop and the macOS system. You need to have a full shutdown procedure so that you can then reset the System Management Controller. This means that all the hardware components of your laptop will reset, including your battery. But if this SMC reset is not solving the issue, then you might need to take your laptop to a professional service.

2. Impossibility of Connecting External Devices

Another common problem you might experience is the impossibility of connecting other devices to your MacBook. The first thing you need to check is if these devices are compatible with your MacBook. If they are, make sure you use the right ports to connect them to your laptop. If this still doesn’t work, you need to check the damage to your USB ports. Sometimes, a restart of the laptop might be exactly what you need. But if your ports are damaged, then you need to take your MacBook to a service.

3. Apps Not Responding

Sometimes, it may be the case that the apps you are using stop responding. What should you do in this case? Well, the thing you should do is to force close it. You do this by clicking right on your mouse and selecting force quit. If you do not use a mouse, then click with two fingers on the trackpad. Another option would be to use the command + options + escape so that you can access the management window. But use this option only if you cannot force quit it.

4. Displaying a Blank Screen

If your MacBook is displaying a blank screen, either black or blue, when you open it, then you should know that this is proof that it froze when it started loading an app or another function. If this blank screen does not go away, then you should restart your laptop by pressing the shutdown button for a few seconds. If after this the problem is still not solved and you get a gray screen, then it means that you have a problem with the software. If you have a problem even after you restart your laptop and install the updates, then you need to take it to service.

5. FaceTime Camera Has Poor Quality

MacBooks have high-quality cameras which are working properly on every occasion. However, you may notice that it works badly when you use your facetime app on the laptop. Well, if your camera is functioning properly in all the other apps, then the problem might be with the facetime app. So, all you need to do is to install all the updates available and the problem will probably be solved.

6. Running Slowly

This is one of the most common problems you may experience with your MacBook, but with any other laptop too. The main cause of it is that the apps you use and the data you have on your laptop are eating too much of the RAM. So, to make it function properly and smoothly, you will need to clear the space you have on the hard drive.

7. Not Charging

This problem can be solved similarly to one of the devices that do not connect to your MacBook. So, the first thing you need to do is to check if everything is plugged in properly. If the answer to this is yes, then the problem might be somewhere else. You can restart your MacBook and the SMC (System Management Controller), which resets all the laptop’s components. Another option would be to check the battery details your laptop provides in the main menu, see its health, and if it needs a replacement.

Final Thoughts

MacBooks, just like any other laptop, can experience some problems while functioning. These are the most common ones which can be solved easily. However, if any problem with your laptop persists, it would be recommended to take your laptop to an authorized Apple service.
